In Case You Were Wondering: Why The World Loves Mary: Because The Reasons Are Not Obvious Nor Do They Make Sense

Billed Bladet brings us news of a feature on Yrma in the current issue of IN Magazine, a Danish fashion publication. It's titled, of course, Why the World So Loves Mary. Because you've wondered. Really looked hard and wondered.

Why the World So Loves Mary

Crown Princess Mary is known for her good style. In fact, according to the international fashion press, her style is so sure that she is often highlighted as an example of how to dress in a way that is feminine, timeless and elegant.

Since she married Crown Prince Frederik in May, 2004, Mary has ranked high on the list of the world's best-dressed. In 2012 she was thus once again on Vanity Fair's prestigious honours list 'Best Dressed Women'. But what exactly does our Crown Princess do stylistically? Why is everyone so crazy about Mary?

"I think she is modern and elegant. She is conscious about the trends that are known each season, and so I like that she is faithful to Danish fashion and therefore is a good representative of Danish design and the Nordic culture. She uses things such as fur, because that is what we traditionally have to keep us warm in the winter," says IN's fashion editor Louise Amstrup.

And that is exactly what her style is Nordic touch that makes her so popular and she seems indeed to have inspired a younger style-competitor: namely Duchess Catherine of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton. The two style-princesses are often compared.

"The younger generation of the royals have been good fashion ambassadors. Both Kate Middleton and Mary have a bourgeois background. They did not grow up with stylists. They even had to make choices," says Louise Amstrup of the royal style icons.

However, the difference between the two can be seen anyway. For example, Mary primarily uses exclusive brands and Danish fine jewellery, while Catherine has been known to go with budget-friendly brands and mix them with English designer finds from, among others, Roksanda Ilincic and Alexander McQueen.

IN's fashion editor believes Mary has a timeless style that complemented well by the always friendly smile and a dignified position. "You could almost call her a modern Jackie O," she says. Want to see examples of Mary's good style? So see the gallery where IN has collected Mary's best everyday looks.

A review of Yrma's pre-Denmark, natural style:

  1. The whole article which is nauseating shows the stupidity and severe delusion of some danish media. Do they even understand what 'the world' means? Denmark does not equal 'the world'. It is sad to see they are so desperate to promote a smelly ugly bogan from tassie. Accordingly, she is modern Jackie O and an inspiration to Kate. What a joke! In your morons' dreams only.

  2. Mary looks like a Sasquatch in those pics. Natural style, my arse! Cece, how's about her infamous Melbourne Cup ensemble?

    1. Your wish is my command! How could we forget the black lace hat, the olive green lace overlay dress, the brown suede shoes, and the peekaboo white bra?

  3. Mary has a very nice smile and that´s it! Sometimes she dresses well, but most of the times she looks cheap. The problem is not her clothes, is the way she acts, so fake and empty. In America we say: "A monkey dressed with silk still being a monkey"

  4. Well that is the woman Fred fell in love with. At least she was authentic back then. She has disappeared into the ether.

  5. Both right. Mary has no style at all. It is her adviser what is her name again....who made something tollerable of the bogan. But befor she became a royal she looked awfull and had no style at all.
But apparently the Danes want to believe that they have taken a styleicon on board....

  6. I think there is a lot of self promotion whichis why she is one royal who appears in the press regularly. You wouldnt get that with Princess Caroline or Stephanie of Monaco nor the British princesses. CP Mary is like the late Princess Diana in that she gives lots of fashion mag and other press interviews and takes on patronages that are more likely to increase her visibility. However the fact that CP Mary is not very truthful makes her less attractive as a person . There was the well known incident when she lied about her Starmaker course which she enrolled in after, not before, she met CP Frederik. There have been many others eg a few days ago she apparently told a journalist at Davos she was 39 years old when she is older. I find her husband more likeable and would bet he has a good character in comparison to Marys.

  7. yes she adores promoting herself........

  8. It is my opinion that these 7 comments are written by very caustic and jealous individuals. Crown Princess Mary has made a transition that millions of people could not have achieved with the poise, grace and intelligence that she has. I have immense admiration for her. She has successfully adapted to a very different lifestyle and she deserves the genuine love and loyalty that I heard expressed for her when I was in Denmark recently. To those nasty critics, just remember that what the press writes about famous people is not what these people are saying about themselves.

    1. Nuh-uh. No sell. Mary is a narcissist, a grifter, a possible sociopath, and a bogan through and through. The "genuine love and loyalty" you think you experienced in Denmark has to do with a press that is culpable in the rosey PR campaign waged by the palace, and the residual good cheer regarding their monarchy and monarch in general. Marge's PR has successfully painted her as an intellectual and an artist for which Danes should be proud. Classic small country syndrome. To the Danes, Mary may be a shallow idiot clotheshorse, but she's their shallow idiot clotheshorse.

  9. I agree that she has made a great transition from the world she lived in before her marriage. However, my question is, who wouldn't? She had the opportunity to leave a rented shared house, working in a number of jobs without any real direction, with limited income, and poor taste, to an opportunity to love and live with a handsome, vibrant, down to earth Crown Prince, with all the money in the world and a stylist to boot! Who wouldn't jump through hoops for that chance! She took it - anyone would have. The problem I think is the fact that she lacks humility, aggressively seeks out publicity (as soon as she could, she made sure she was on the cover of vogue magazine - no other princess to be has done this), she conspicuously consumes (during times of economic crises everywhere), she doesn't appear to be a doting mother (unlike her sister in law), and at times is disrespectful to her husband - the Crown Prince (speaking over him, walking ahead of him etc). Her comment at or about the time of her marriage, that she would "modernise the monarchy" was incredibly arrogant, in my humble opinion. It would have been very different if the Crown Prince had made the statement, but Mary? A nobody from Australia? It spoke volumes. These are the sorts of things that have made some people dislike her.

  13. There is nothing bogan at all about Mary. Those who think there is are clearly out of touch with the meaning of the word bogan and suffering from terrible jealousy.

    1. In about ten years, this woman will be our Queen (Fred will give her the status). Just think about it and about this: She doesn´t speak danish and cannot understand our culture. She is perfect to "modernise the monarchy"

    2. It is too easy to say that we Are jelaous! In stead: tell us why we Are wrong. Thats impossible and that is why they just say we Are jalous. Stop it. I am not jalous. I like any other Crown princess

  14. I agree, she isn't a bogan. What she was was a very ambitious and calculating aussie girl, who did very well for herself and she knows it. I do think she went overboard with her image, attitude and with spending money etc, but I actually think she has noted the criticism and has changed somewhat. She does speak Danish, albeit she has an accent and gets some words wrong sometimes, but that is perfectly normal. And she (now) is cultured. Anyone could have morphed into that with all the support, money and love she has received; it would have been outrageous if she hadn't.

  15. Thanks Cece! Now if only the women's magazines would do a no-holds barred pictorial on the style evolution of the bogan Sasquatch!

jeeesus Mary was ugly then and she's still ugly now ! wearing a tiara and designer wear, those things do not make her beautiful ...she's still plain but skinnier now from endless dieting .
..at least she didn't need botox fillers on her fatty cheeks before Fred . now the bitch is obsessed with botox. Mary will forever be fake and ugly !!!!!

she's at her ugliest now no matter the fancy stuff because of her snobby "I'm better than you" attitude ...
the woman is still a loser!!

    1. true! Mary has had the most drastic change of all the commoners marrying into a royal family ...(well maybe other than MetteM with her colourful past)
But as far looks go, Mary before Fred's money looked dowdy and unkempt, compared to Letizia and Maxima whose professional working background gave them a decent stylish appearance.
Just look at the photos above. Mary looked no better than a Mcdonalds minimum wage worker flipping burgers. She was just this chubby, sweaty, foul, stained, soiled disgusting mess!!
So why is she a nag to Fred?
Every night now she should kneel before Fred and thank him endlessly for giving her a life of glitter and gold!
Just get out your knee pads and suck on your meal ticket b***h!

  25. this was how Mary looked around the time she first met Fred --imagine her in an ill fitting dress like that with her cleavage in his face! Fred was likely drunk beyond reason and logic to see past Mary's hillbilly look.
