New Thomas Kluge Portrait of Danish Royal Family: "Celebrating" 150 Years Today of the Glucksborg Dynasty: Boganborg Kids Are Gargoyles, Schackenborg Gets Off Easy, All Are Oblivious to the Destruction of Civilisation Behind Them (and Because of Them?): Symbolism, Ho!

Presented without commentary, although it should be noted that even The Fug Girls couldn't let this one pass. Commemorative book can be purchased here: Saxo

The Laurits Tuxen painting that inspired the new portrait, that of the family of King Christian IX at Fredensborg, with all children and grandchildren:

  1. Okayyyy...it's been one day now, and I know this is November, but I'm waiting for the Danish Court to shout out "April Fool!"

  2. Oy, this is creeeeeepy. Christian and Isabella, super-creepy. The children that Fred and Mary are holding do not look like Vincent and Josephine. Margrethe's smugness and Henrik's arrogance are unmistakable. I thought Marie was better than this, but apparently not. What were they thinking - surely this can't be a joke so it must be their real persona. This entire crew could slide right into a horror movie. I cannot emphasize this enough - creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy.

  3. Why would they put Christian in the front with the lighting that way on his face!?!?!?! It's The Omen! Seriously freaky scary.

  4. They are giving poor little Christian all their evil power. Henrik is giving him a back-handed push with his right hand and it looks like Margrethe is ready to kick Christian into the future. Christian looks like a sad, evil, little old man

Isabella looks like she's been, well, let's just say "hurt", I don't want to say what I'm thinking her expression and posture conveys.

I think I am done following this family, I have lost my respect for them. A family with Christian beliefs and values would not put something like this out there. I am appalled.

    1. WTF?! Just because of an ugly painting you lost your respect for them?
I read somewhere that Queen Margrethe II likes this kind of paintings. And I'm sure, there are some danish royals who don't like it, like you don't.
This is just a matter of tastes. You can't discuss people's tastes, okey, this painting is horrible (I hate it, too) but they continue to be an awsome royal family.
And, what? "A family with Christian beliefs and values would not put something like this out there", what things does this painting have, that disrespects values or whatever?
      That it's just stupid.
And more, here you have what the paiting means:

"The Royal Family” has been painted over four years and portrays Queen Margrethe II and Prince Consort Henrik with their sons, daughter in laws and grandchildren in the Garden Room at Fredensborg Palace. The royal family is portrayed in the same place as in Tuxen’s “Fredensborg Picture”, just as the rococo sofa Queen Margrethe and Prince Consort are sitting on is the same that is portrayed in Tuxen’s painting from the 1880’s.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary stands on the left in the painting in front of the ruins of the Roman arches. It symbolizes that they are a city family. Joachim and Marie is on the far right in the painting, even though the background is a little dark behind them, they symbolize that they are the rural part of the royal family.

Prince Christian stands serious and stiff in the center of the painting. It symbolizes that he is the one who has the responsibility of carrying on the royal family and the monarchy.

Of the 14 members of the royal family members in the painting, it is only Prince Christian, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik, who looks directly at the spectator. This is a symbol that it’s this trio who are the most important members in the family.

Prince Joachim and Countess Alexandra’s divorce is symbolized in the building of the big lego tower. It symbolizes that Prince Joachim and Countress Alexandra’s family was broken down, but that the family now is rebuilt.

Princess Marie looks down at her daughter, Princess Athena, with an almost Madonna-like expression. In the painting you also see Crown Princess Mary carrying Princess Josephine while she tenderly looks to the left at Prince Vincent on Crown Prince Frederik’s arm. It symbolizes that Mary is both a mother of four, and the country’s future queen.

The painter Thomas Kluge and his wife can also be seen in the painting. His wife is portrayed as a small figure in a green dress in the background of the painting. Kluge is the man holding her hand. They are portrayed as they were portrayed in his portrait of his own family "

    1. My thoughts exactly - Morticia and family. At first I thought it was a joke, but it is one of the creepiest evil pictures I have ever seen. Christian is depicted as the devil from the Omen movie, and the rest of them look like they have been embalmed. Poor Izzie looks like a zombie. This should be a turning point for the Danes. First Margie's glass coffin (bizarre like Lenin) and now this. WOW-za

    2. It IS a joke. The photograph does not have royal approval. How can anyone be so naive as to believe that the Daisy would ok that ????

    3. We need to photoshop a couple of spaceships in the background for that complete 'look', symbolizing that the mother ship is coming to beam them back

  6. Did Maggie approve this. I'm not sure she did
