Bien Jouée!: Princess Marie Speaks in Front of UNESCO Assembly in Paris While Rest of Family Attends Daisy's Annual Fredensborg Concert

Grander audience than Madam La Sauvatrice du Monde!

So, the Danish princess who is least likely to embarrass herself and most likely to rise to the occasion was sent to Paris with her patronage UNESCO to give a speech on global sustainability. Madam Mazza, who tried SO HARD to impress herself upon the New York celebrity stage recently by dressing "cool" (ahem) and being hip and off the cuff ("yeah!") and dragging poor pregnant Princess Madeleine around to be her celebrity/royal intro to meet assholes like Bono, instead of working hard with her patronages or MEMEMEMEME Foundation and learning about the rotten issues in the world and using her influence to make positive changes. Didn't work. Yeah.

But Marie seems to be in control of both her subject knowledge and - inadvertently, which makes it more charming - her brand. Sister is not back in Paris to rub her former countrymens' noses into her marital success on an ill-fated Regardez-Moi! Tour. She quietly returned to her birthplace as a professional from her new nation, speaking on a subject that needs gracious, royal attention. She put her hair up, put on a pretty pants/blazer combo (someone get her a clothing budget!) and calmly and seriously, got on with business, not with posing for cameras.

Meanwhile, Daisy's annual concert at Fredensborg in which she typically signals all sorts of familial imbalances, was held without Marie in attendance, though Joachim made a dashing appearance in a velvet evening jacket, a dandy like his father. Daisy was all sorts of discombobulated with her belle-fille bien aimée not present - and it showed. Mary took note of the absense, as well, swanning her way into the palace in her silly sparkly dirndal skirt and recent Aussie top. Separates just make you look like a secretary on a night out, Mary. Pick out something more sophisticated, already. Fred looked like his usual bedraggled and bedrugged self, barely putting up with Mary and the requirement to attend one of his mother's cultured functions. At least Joachim was there looking relaxed and alive, representing Schackenborg, the preferred branch of Daisy's family tree.

  1. Right Marie gets it. She's engaged and professional and she still looks naturally pretty and even subtly sexy- but not in an inappropriate way. The girl cant help it. Her mannerisms and attitude cannot be taught. Its just her natural personality that comes thru. You can't change an adults personality no matter how hard you try. She could show up wearing a burlap potato sack and she'd still give an appropriate appearance. What she wears is totally irrelevant because she CARES about the cause. Meanwhile at the party in Copenhagen the Bling. Botox. Black Velvet. Bowtiews Beautifully set tables and Beautiful Ball gowns were all generously donated by the taxpaying peasants.....

  3. That YouTube video of Marie at UNESCO is impressive. Shes a natural. Its hard for a woman to come off as smart professional concerned AND feminine AND pretty. She nailed it. No focus on her bling or her clothes or makeup etc. She doesnt act like shes better than everyone else because shes a princess. She is meeting the audience on a level playing field. The focus is on UNESCO and how it is helping the world. And since she is focused on UNESCO that's what the audience is focused on. When she talks about Denmark's UNESCO projects you can feel her pride and excitement. She's better than QE II. Bravo Marie. Youre a natural ambassador. Your mannerisms make people want to learn more about UNESCO and you have a positive presence. You are a likable person who happens to be a princess. But people see Marie the person before they see Marie the princess. It didnt go to your head. Mary isn't even in the ballpark.

    1. Isn't that the truth ^^^^ I agree with everything you said!

And how fabulous was it that Marie switched so easily between English and French, without any....."oops, I just slipped into another language" embarrassment. She sounded as eloquent in French as she did in English. Good on her.

      What a successful visit!!

  4. During the courtship engagement and wedding when Mary was with Fred she always looked like she had the upper hand and Fred looked like he felt lucky to have her. Now when the two are together Fred often looks unhappy and like he just wants to get away as fast as he can. And Mary sort of looks like she's nervous and skating on thin ice and just hoping that things will get better. Does anyone else see that? I wonder how that situation degenerated like that

  5. Agreed. I guess they are getting ready for the social holiday Christmas season what with shopping with their black Amexs and gurning to the crowds through the windows of their Rolls.
Awful people and yet the danish people pay for this.
Also Fred looks more and more neutered.

  6. Joachim looks so at ease and content with his life. Fred appears to look more and more unhappy unsettled and uncomfortable with his life. Its like there are some strong unspoken
undercurrents in the relationship between the two brothers and between Mary and Fred. Fred seems to have an emotilnal wall set up between himself and Mary. Something looks to be brewing in that family and it just doesn't look like its something positive. Mary seems to be contrite and nervous around Fred. Like she's walking on eggshells and trying to make amends but its not working. I feel like it is a matter of time before there is some sort of announcement made. Does anyone else pick this up???

  7. Marie is great!! She's so poised, but not fake. Well done to her.

I didn't know Maz went out with Madde in NY. Any pics? I bet they went shopping or in some other frivolous activity.

  8. It seems like no matter what age the French women are, they always look fantastic.
Look at the picture above at UNESCO of the older woman w/ light hair, talking to Marie when sittng down. She looks remarkable. Remember Marie's grandmother in the wedding picture? She looked amazing and was probably in her 70s or 80s.. They just know how to take care of themselves, dress and look great. I think women from a lot of other countries could learn a lot from them.
